Life Of A Warrior: The Battle Of The Mind!
The Battle Of The Mind!

Oh hi there! Welcome back! I missed you… If you missed last week’s post click here

Let’s get back to the introduction before digging in. My Name is Mide, a content creator with a knack for good food and A SICKLE CELL WARRIOR!

Wow! I never knew I would ever get to a stage where I don’t shy away from stating that, and I’m sure you are wondering why. Like I stated earlier, growing up with the uncertainty of my genotype and finally getting the true result (in SS1) made me very ashamed to ever voice out my genotype.

I never felt the need to tell a new friend, nor did I look forward to making new friends solely because I was scared of being judged. That fear slowly grew to hatred as I didn’t see why I should be segregated because I was born with something I didn’t bring upon myself. But now, I know better.

You see, Sickle Cell Anemia has its ups and downs (which we will discuss soon) but it doesn’t define me as a person because I am not my SCD!

Sickle cell is not a death sentence. I have a career, business and also a good social life as do a lot of warriors out there and guess what? We are doing amazing. I am just as ambitious as the next person if not more ambitious. So why should I be seen by society as a weakling? Why that pity face when a warrior introduces themselves as one? Or why will employers reject me because I live with SCD? The real battle involves dealing with the judgment, the side gossips, and snide insults. And it really is THE BATTLE OF THE MIND! Being a warrior, that is the very first battle you must conquer!

Meet me here again next week. Let's talk sickle cell and what you need to know about it from a warrior’s perspective.
