Style With The Average Nigerian Girl: Ankara Print Party!

Style With The Average Nigerian Girl: Ankara Print Party!

Hi Dolls! It’s summer time in most part of the world and I would have loved to whip out my favorite Ankara summer pieces. unfortunately, the rain has refused to stop in Lagos but I am patient and planning while we wait.

When you think of summer style, the free, light, short and colorful pieces come to mind. One fabric I can always count on to be colorful is Ankara. I try to make as much styles as I can with it because what style and you not make with Ankara these days though? Ankara summer dresses are definitely a hit this year if the pictures I’ve been seeing online are anything to go by.

Talking about Ankara summer dresses, I am really hyped about this smocked split dress. It is called the ELLA SPLIT by AlexAiro Clothing, a Nigerian clothing brand. This is one piece I would be wearing over and over again as soon as the sun comes out to play! I got it as a gift from them and it’s so fun, flirty & cute. I fell right in love with it. The length is pretty decent and it is cut in a way that isn’t embarrassing when the wind decides to have a little fun with you!

While picking summer dresses, we should remember to support our own African brands as well. I’ve worked with quite a few Nigerian clothing brands and their work is amazing. Remember this beautiful off-shoulder dress ( It was also made by AlexAiro Clothing and the fabric as well as the print is top-notch. I feel the same way about this split dress. I have styled it so many times in my head and this is just one of them.

For this look, I picked a pair of denim shorts to wear underneath the dress. Flat silver shoes, black hat and a raffia bucket bag. Perfect for summer days when you want to keep it casual and street style chic.
