The Nigerian women-Seun Adigun, Akuoma Omeoga, and Ngozi Onwumere are the first African bobsled team to qualify for the Olympics.
For those who don’t know what the bobsled/bobsleigh game is, it is a winter sport in which teams of two or four teammates make timed runs down narrow, twisting, banked, iced tracks in a gravity-powered sled
The interesting thing about the Nigerian team is that the equipment or sled was handmade by Seun Adigun. “I just went for two or three days straight, just hammering and drilling and sawing this wooden sled together,” Adigun said. They were also low on funds and created a GoFundMe crowdfunding account and raised “$75,000, including $50,000 from a single anonymous donor”.
What’s important now is that they won and now get to speak to world’s famous Tv host, Ellen DeGeneres . They talked about their journey, challenges they faced and how they unexpectedly won.
