Met Gala 2018 Theme Already Revealed As “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination”.

Met Gala 2018 theme may seem controversial but it aims to create an understanding between fashion and the church. One of the highlights would be Amal Clooney, Rihanna and Donatella Versace hosting the event next year.

The Met Gala which is a highly exclusive event attended by personalities from the arts, fashion, high-society, film and music. It’s considered to be the fashion industry’s premier annual red carpet event and the sole aim is to raise funds for the Museum of Arts Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibits.

Every year has a theme associated with a person of social impact, artistic impact or creative impact in the fashion industry. The 2017 theme was to honour the talented Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo in the fashion industry hence the theme Comme Des Garcon: Art of the In-Between.

We wouldn’t forget in a haste Rihanna’s outfit by Comme Des Garcon’s designer-Rei Kawakubo. Other celebs that gave us unforgettable moments are Zendaya, Zoe Kravitz, Kendal Jenner among others. It will be the largest exhibition and located in three places: the Anna Wintour Costume Center, the medieval galleries at the Met’s Fifth Avenue location, and further uptown at the Cloisters.

According to Vogue, the exhibition will feature ecclesiastical garb borrowed from the Vatican, religious art from the Met’s own collection and 150 designer garments that pay aesthetic homage to Catholicism. Rather than being contained in one gallery, the exhibition will be spread over three locations: the Met’s Costume Center, its medieval galleries and further uptown at the Met Cloisters. Vogue also reports that Met Daniel H. Weiss (President & Chief Executive of the Museum) noted that he has “confidence that the exhibition will inspire understanding, creativity and, along the way, constructive dialogue, which is precisely a museum’s role in our civil society.”

In Fall 2013, Dolce and Gabbana showcased their collection that was inspired by religion. They made used of symbolic statutes or religious figures, mosaic paintings etc without much controversy. Next year would be very historic as the people of fashion choose to create and understanding between fashion and religion.
