HollyWood Star Eric Roberts In Lagos For The Sequel To “A Soldier’s Story.”

Yesterday at the Genesis Deluxe cinemas VIP secession in Lagos, a small crowd gathered for the announcement of a new project – a sequel to the groundbreaking Nollywood film, A Soldier’s Story. Somewhere in the front row of the hall was, Eric Roberts, Hollywood star and older brother of Julia Roberts.

It would appear Mr. Roberts is our token oyibo in this one. lol!

The writer and director of “A Soldier’s Story”, Frank Ogar, introduced the sequel in very excited tones. Apparently, it is set to be of exceptional standards compared to it’s prequel and other Nollywood movies like it.

Shooting commenced on the 5th and will be ongoing until the 23rd of the month. The time period slated for shooting is rather interesting but hopefully wouldn’t have any effect on the quality of the film.

We hope to see Eric Roberts playing a strong character in this film, though, not a lot was disclosed of the plot. Eric Roberts seems to have a thing for Nollywood as he just recently played Sonnie in AY’s “A trip to Jamaica.” The dark knights star who is notorious for his villain roles did not stray too far playing Sonnie, a villain drug lord, and we expect to see him in an even stronger villain role in this production as well.

Speaking of villains, in one of my favorite Eric Roberts movie and also the most popular, he played Salvatore Maroni, a personal favorite of the Gotham villains. He was party to one best DC dialogues ever if I do say so myself. Now because I’m nice, I’ll share it with you…

Chechen: What do you propose?
Joker: It’s simple. We, uh, kill the Batman.
Maroni: If it’s so simple, why haven’t you done it already?
Joker: If you’re good at something, never do it for free.

Profound.

I didn’t get round to asking Roberts any questions during the Q&A session yesterday, but someone did ask him about his movie career and he disclosed that his favorite role was playing Paul Snider, a real life person portrayed in the movie Star 80, who raped and killed his playboy model wife, Dorothy Stratten. Eric sure loves his villains.

The second installment of A Soldier’s Story also features Tope Tedela, Daniel K Daniel, Sambassa Nzeribe, Olumide Oworu, Somkele Inyamah and a host of others.
