BabyBliss Corner – New Mums; Balancing Work With Breast feeding

We all know the normal maternity leave in Nigeria is 3 months (Don’t know what the person that came up with this was thinking ) and at this stage our babies still need the wonder milk that comes out of our breast.

So what do you do when your baby needs your breast milk and you can’t afford to quit your job or take your little one along? You express! This is basically pumping milk mechanically with the aid of pumps (Don’t be scared, we mean breast pumps)

Here’s everything you need to know about breast pumps;

  • It basically involves assembling the breast shield on your breast and pumping the desired milk into a container.
  • There are 2 types –  Manual breast pumps & electric breast pumps and you should decide which to buy based on your finances & needs.
  • A manual breast pump is cheaper but requires you to do a lot of work… serious work. And milk comes out slowly. So if you are running late for work or if you are generally tired, a manual breast pump might be frustrating to you.

  • An electric breast pump on the other hand is a little bit pricier but makes up for the price with its convenience. It pumps faster and basically, you don’t have to do any of the work. It works like magic.

They both get the job done as long as you get quality & original ones. The important thing is to not put your patience to test with fake pumps as they do not pump anything and we don’t want your precious baby to go hungry as a result.
