It’s just May but it’s safe to say we already know who takes home this award.
During Spring Summer 2017 fashion week, designers all seemed to be on the same page, making political statements via soundtracks, pees and more prominently -slogans on Tees.
Christian Siriano had T- shirts printed with “People Are People”, Creatures of Comfort went for “We Are All Human Beings”, Jonathan Simkhai took this line; “Feminist AF”, while Prabal Gurung’s finale featured a host of T-shirts bearing slogans like “Revolution Has No Borders,” “I Am an Immigrant” and “The Future Is Female.”
Dior was the ultimate winner with a slogan gotten from legendary Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s 2014 essay that read “We Should All Be Feminists”.
The T Shirt was an instant success with street style stars and littered the streets of Paris during fashion week. Celebrities were not left out in the frenzy – with Rihanna, Natalie Portman, Lisa Folawiyo, Karlie Kloss, Tracee Ellis Ross and more taking on different styling options with the shirt on diverse occasions.
Harpers Bazaar took it a step further when they featured Jennifer Lawrence on their cover wearing the shirt.
Dior also sealed their winning the T Shirt of the year prize, announcing that a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the Tees ( which retailed at $710 and ends today May 15, 2017) will be donated to Rihanna’s nonprofit, The Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF). (The group, which she founded in 2012, supports and funds education, health and emergency response programs in impoverished areas around the world.)
