Anyone who knows me very well and I have ever discussed my wedding plans with will testify that as a non-traditional individual I am a big fan of a beach wedding. Even as a Nigerian, I think a beach wedding is unique and you will be in with nature. Personally, the beach is one of my favourite places to visit especially to unwind and let go of all life’s worry.
Many people disregard the concept of a beach wedding in Nigeria because of Privacy issues. They only want their closest family and friends to witness their special occasion. To be honest who can blame them. This is exactly what a wedding should be about and not a circus freak show.
However, how many Nigerian couples have actually considered a private beach wedding instead. One whereby, only the couple and their wedding guests will occupy the entire beach. Trust me, even in Nigeria, it is very possible, especially in Lagos. Lagos has many private beaches and even private properties looking over the beach.
There are many best-kept secrets within the tourism industry in Nigeria. Such places includes Lacampagne Tropicana based in Ibeju Lekki. It is on the same coast as Eleko Beach. You can also consider other quiet beaches such as Atican, Santa Cruz, Lekki leisure, Lekki Beach, Oniru and others. Even on other rowdy public beaches such as Elegushi, a section of it can be portioned off jus for you the couple and bridal party.
Before organising a beach wedding, do consider rain, excessive breeze/the wind and tidal. Why not have it in the dry season, instead of raining season. How are wedding guests going to get there? Are you going to hire a bus to take your wedding guests from point A to B? If you are overwhelmed just by all that you need to consider, please do hire a wedding planner/coordinator. Their job is to take the stress away from you.
On a Final note, It’s your wedding, break away from the norm. The good thing about a beach wedding is that you can control the exact wedding guests. You can even decide not to reveal the exact wedding location & tell everyone to meet a certain meetup point at so so time. lol
Let us know what you think. Will you also consider a beach wedding?
