Today, I visited the self-claimed first Nigerian footwear brand: Kene Rapu. The Ankara footwear brand was set up in October 2011, by female entrepreneur Kene Rapu. It was launched as an initiative to promote the development of Nigerian fashion industry by providing employment and support for indigenous producers.
Apart from women slippers, Kene Rapu also stock Ankara cover notebooks/diary and male slippers mainly in black colour. Also, they stock Ankara inspired cross bags and clutches from other Nigerian brands.
I visited the store located at N°1A Olajide George street, Lekki, Lagos and for once, I was glad It was easy to locate. Welcomed by a beautiful young lady. She immediately opened the door and ushered me in.
I am a big love of Ankara and slippers. So, I just fell in love with most pieces. But, as usual, I had to pick my top 5 pieces which were once again very difficult to achieve. After minutes of contemplating on which slippers to pick because I love them all, I was able to finally make my pick:
