So you’re home from work and all you really want to do is put on your baggiest jumper, smear off what little make-up you have left on your face with a baby wipe and crawl into bed.

However, there are far more interesting ways of winding down and switching off after a long hard day at work, all of which mean you can actually have a life outside of your 9-5!

#1 Review

The last thing I want to be doing when I get home is to be fretting about everything I have left to do the following day. Just before I leave work I make a mental note of how much I have done and what is left to do, I can then prioritise my workload for the next day without having to worry about it when I get into bed.

#2 Tie up loose ends

Often we don’t have enough hours in the day. If however there is something that can easily be resolved in a matter of minutes such as sending an email or having a quick conversation with a colleague, it’s always best to wrap it up before you go home.

#3  Eat well

People say you should avoid fatty foods, caffeine and alcohol before bed in fear of a disruptive nights sleep and honestly they aren’t wrong. Opt for something healthy and yummy to avoid feeling bloated and groggy.

#4 Exercise

It doesn’t have to be strenuous, it could be as simple as taking a brisk walk from the Bustop or taking the stairs rather than the elevator.

#5 Disconnect

Turning off your phone completely may be a step too far, I know I couldn’t do it, but don’t be afraid to put it on charge face it down and forget about it. You can survive without Instagram or Twitter for a couple of hours, I believe in you!

#6 Light a candle or two

Candles are my obsession, turn off the main lights and light a few candles to really chill out and get yourself in the mood to relax.

#7 Read something

Reading is one of the best ways to wind down after a long and stressful day, allowing your mind to wander into a world different to your own for an hour or two is pure bliss.

#8 Switch off

Working all day requires patience, focus and determination, all of which can be exhausting. This is your time to do nothing even remotely productive and not feel even the tiniest bit guilty.

# 9 End the day on a positive note

Before you nod off to sleep have a think about something that made you happy in the day, it could be something so simple but if it made you smile then it’s worth thinking about.

#10 Sleep well

This means sleeping in your bed with your lights turned off, not falling asleep on the sofa with Netflix on in the background, it’s tempting but still naughty. A bad night’s sleep can really stop you from reaching your full potential the next day.

So it’s a fresh week. Give these tips a try this week and how much you’d be able to achieve.
