
Home Remedies: Healing A Burn
A burn is any injury to the skin or flesh caused by an exposure to heat or flame, electricity, chemicals, friction, or radiation. Depending on the severity and damaged caused, it is called a first, second or third degree burn.
The more common household injury are the First and second degree burns. They affect the superficial layer of the skin (the epidermis) and some skin tissues. They are characterized by redness and blisters formation respectively.
If you get burned by accident in the home, do any of the following
1. Water:
This the most common response to burns esp 1st degree burns. Immediately afetr accident occurs, place the burned area in cold water (don’t use butter, oil, ice or ice water, all of which can worsen the damage by prevent blood flow and hence tissue damage).
2. Aloe Vera: After running some water on the area for sometime, apply aloe vera or its cream. Aloe vera works to soothe and speed up tissue repair process.
3. Raw potatoes: This helps to soothe pain and relieve irritation and blisters.
-Immediately you get burned, cut a slice and potato and rub the juice on the burned area.
-Or grate a raw potato and apply m.ash to the affected area. Leave for 15mins before rinsing off.
4. Lemon Juice and Coconut oil:
This should not be applied immediately burn occurs!. Together, both elements they help to treat minor burns and heal scars but only after it is cooled and dried.
-Properly mix coconut oil and some lemon juice and apply to affected skin area.
5. Honey:
Honey serves to disinfect wounds, heal burns and most importantly prevent the formation of hypertrophic scars.
-Apply a good amount of honey on a gauze bandage and place directly affected area. Endeavor to replace said bandage three to four times in a day.
